This site presents the professional consulting practice and activities of Manuel L Knight. He serves the investment community with:

Manuel Knight recently established KnightConsult LLC in Washington DC.  He has over three decades of international experience in the field of physical planning and development for all kinds of tourism projects with specialties in market & financial feasibility studies, master planning and development of hotels, resort complexes and even entire destinations and related infrastructures. He has conducted assignments in over 75 countries and is experienced in assessing investment opportunities and risks in developing economies.

As an independent practitioner with no links to any development agency or investment group, he brings a totally objective perspective to any assignment. Through positions in US, UK, French and Japanese firms his experience for various donor agencies and commercial property developers, is extensive. With solid knowledge of international travel markets, of tourism operations and of the dynamics of investment, he can strengthen destination development master plans, tourism project strategies and scrutinize income streams and asset valuations, to ensure that they reflect reality. On several occasions he has served as World Tourism Organization [Madrid] advisor to Latin American countries. He can also advise on compliance with the Equator Principles, the environmental standard required by a growing number of lenders.

Due Diligence for Ultra-luxurious resort project off Venezuela: Advised an EU investment group on market positioning & feasibility, financial performance, appointment of hotel operator, benchmarking advisor, Equator Principles compliance, community linkages and airline accessibility.
National Ecotourism Strategic Plan for the Dominican Republic: Proposed legal and institutional reforms and initiatives to support rural and community-based tourism in this major Caribbean destination. [Japan International Cooperation Agency, PADECO]
Axum-Adwa Cluster Destination Development Program, Ethiopian Sustainable Tourism Development Program: Developed a plan for physical works at archaeological and religious sites plus training, marketing and institutional strengthening programs for these towns along the nation's northern cultural touring route, in Tigray province. Tourism & Employment in Cross River State, Nigeria: Prepared an economic profile of domestic and international tourism to this state in SE Nigeria, including employment, foreign currency earnings, hotel utilization and other indicators. This is part of a comprehensive program run by CDC Solutions supporting the Cross River destination. [World Bank]
